Body shaming ruins self-esteem.
By: Lily Adriana
The generation of today does not see the error in expressing their opinion. That's real, but it's not all right to shut out anyone with a particular type of body than they do. Our negative society managed to create more than one type of body shaming. Skinny shaming, fat shaming etc.
Around one third and half of young girls are scared to get fat and eat snack or detox. It also said girls as young as five years old are concerned about their appearance and height, and at least once one in four girls aged seven tried to lose weight. In fact, one percent of boys aged 8-12 suffer for weight loss. This just shows how much of a negative impact the acts of body shaming does to human beings.
There are several reasons why people of my generation are affected, including: we're too young to realize what's ' appropriate ' or ' wrong ' about our health; we're too easily influenced by celebrities and the media; we're overthrowing the opinions of other people about us and many of us don't even grasp what's wrong in saying, "You're not overweight, you're gorgeous."
Me, growing up, I've dealt with many comments about my body. Up until now, i still yet to receive comments saying that my body is fat and as if i have already given birth. Well, most of them that said that does have the same condition of body as mine which makes them nothing better than me. They are just bullies.
Come to think of it, what is wrong in being skinny or slightly overweight? At the end, we are humans, we can change for the better with proper motivations. For kids, being harsh on them regarding their bodies are not going to help. Let them enjoy food while they have the appetite to. You will be truly worried when they do not want to eat at all. Because people have been saying things of their body.
Stop body shaming. It is rude and not a cool thing to do. This ruins people, people's self-esteem and it just shows how frigid a person is by shaming people as a hobby.
Now if you will excuse me, I am going to raid my fridge.
