‘GROUNDBREAKING MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS.’

Recently, on 12 December 2019, a ground-breaking ceremony for a project called ‘Baitul Awqaf’ was held in UITM Malacca Branch, specially officiated by the State Secretary YB Dato's Seri Hasim bin Hasan.

Together witnessing the sight of the event were the Honourable Vice Chancellor of UiTM Melaka, the Rector, the Deputy Rector and the top management officers of UiTM Melaka.

Baitul Awqaf was the rector’s very own idea a long time ago, and this year, he is about to make it happen as this idea could be beneficial for both students and the lecturers.

The Baitul Awqaf project involves two projects namely Dataran Keusahawanan and Research Garden.

As for Dataran Keusahawanan, there will be six to eight booths provided according to the planning. These booths will be tasked for each faculty for the purpose of student entrepreneurship activities. 

On the other hand, Research garden is a special area for students and lecturers to conduct research activities.

In my opinion for this whole project, I think this project is very fruitful especially for students because the main objectives of this project itself is to make sure all students from every faculty to participate in entrepreneurship activities. Nowadays, we can see a lot of youngsters are more attracted in doing business and selling something that are close to their own interests such as gadgets, cosmetics and so on.

There are many reasons why I personally think the Baitul Awqaf could be beneficial for students. Firstly, this project could be the first big step for some students who always wanted to try doing business. This is because while involving in the entrepreneurship activities, it also could be a good practice for them in order to be well prepared in business world. Secondly, the entrepreneurship activities encourage healthy competition among students as they will try to compete to get more sales. This will indirectly push them to be a critical thinker on how to attract more customers and to be more innovative and creative on their own products.

For the Research Garden, I also think it is a good idea for both students and lecturers. This is because this spot could be another choice or option other than library and classrooms for them to gather and conduct research activities together.

In a nutshell, I think the Baitul Awqaf creates opportunities for both students and lecturers. Therefore, everyone should lend a hand by contributing in the waqf collection as this project relies on the financing to assure that this Waqaf project is going on. Lastly, I would like to quote this meaningful quote from Helen Keller, "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much."
